Privacy Policy

Cable Box TV ("Cable Box") is an Apple TV app that turns your Plex library into live TV channels. This policy explains what the app does with your information. The short version: the developer of Cable Box collects no data about you. Your information stays on your Apple TV, in your own iCloud account, and on your own Plex server.

What Cable Box handles, and where it goes

Your Plex sign-in

You sign in by linking the app to your Plex account on plex.tv. Plex gives the app a sign-in token, which is stored only in your Apple TV's Keychain. It is never sent to the developer or synced anywhere else. If you use Plex Home profiles, the token for the profile you pick is stored the same way.

Your Plex library

Cable Box reads your library's details (titles, episodes, genres, ratings, artwork, and so on) from your Plex server to build channels and the program guide. It keeps a copy on your Apple TV so the guide opens quickly. Videos stream straight from your Plex server to your Apple TV.

Your channels and settings

Your channel lineup and settings sync between your Apple TVs through your own iCloud account (Apple's iCloud private database). Apple stores this data for you; the developer cannot see it. A backup copy is also kept on the Apple TV itself.

What you watch

Cable Box keeps track of how long you've watched each program, on your Apple TV. If you leave Mark as Watched in Plex on (Settings → Playback), it tells your Plex server when you've watched enough of a program, as any Plex app does. Report Partial Progress (off by default) also sends your place in a program to your Plex server. This information goes to your Plex server and your Plex account, not to the developer.

Your network

To tell whether your Plex server is at home or away, Cable Box looks at your Apple TV's own network address. This check happens only on the Apple TV, and the address is never sent anywhere.

What Cable Box does not do

• It has no analytics, advertising, or tracking, and contains no third-party SDKs that do.
• It doesn't create an account with the developer, and the developer runs no servers that receive your data.
• It doesn't sell or share your information with anyone.

Services you connect to

Cable Box talks to these services, each under its own privacy policy:

• Plex (plex.tv and your Plex Media Server), for sign-in, your library, and streaming. See the Plex Privacy Policy.
• Apple (iCloud, and the App Store for any optional tip or supporter purchase), which the developer never sees your payment details for. See the Apple Privacy Policy.

If you choose to share crash reports and diagnostics with app developers in your Apple TV's settings, Apple may pass anonymous crash reports for Cable Box to the developer. You can turn this off under Analytics & Improvements in your Apple TV's privacy settings.

Removing your data

• On your Apple TV: delete the app, or sign out of Plex in Cable Box (Settings → Plex Account → Sign Out) to remove the sign-in token.
• In iCloud: on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac, go to Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage and delete Cable Box's data.
• On Plex: remove Cable Box from your authorized devices at plex.tv, under Account → Authorized Devices.

Children

Cable Box collects no personal information from anyone, including children. Plex Home profiles, and their content restrictions, are managed in your Plex account.

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
